ABSTRACT
The Finnish bridges have been traditionally well kept. However, there are many significant findings of new types of technical challenges in bridge maintenance that will cause significant funding and innovative needs soon in the future. The environment, load management and aging of structures have been in focus earlier, but traditional bridge inspections are not sufficient to find these new structural risks. New generations of risks cannot be managed by only traditional inspections. Also, a new generation of bridge management is needed. Finland is not alone with these challenges.
