ABSTRACT

This study introduces an innovative methodology for calibrating road traffic load models on embankments using bridge weigh-in-motion (bWIM) data, focusing on developing a rapid and reproducible calibration technique, targeting the calibration of new geotechnical load models introduced in the second generation of the Eurocode standard prEN 1991-2. While the study does not aim for final model calibration, it lays the foundation for future extensive calibrations using a broader dataset and advanced reliability-based data analysis. The study is a part of the ongoing efforts of the IABSE Task Group 1.10, established in January 2023, to integrate road traffic data into bridge research, design, and assessment.
