ABSTRACT
The diagnosis of the Rochers Noirs Viaduct, listed as a Heritage Building in 2000 and closed to traffic since 2006, revealed some significant defects in the suspension cables that shall be completely renewed. Furthermore, the upper steel decking, only designed to support personnel maintaining the original railway line, is unfit for future use and shall also be fully replaced to enable the re-opening of the viaduct for soft mobilities. Some rehabilitation works also need to be undertaken on the masonry and ironworking. As of November 2023, the deck is supported by a temporary suspension, the old suspension has been dismantled, the new suspension has been installed, and the load transfer from temporary to new suspension is about to take place, while the painting works are ongoing.
