ABSTRACT
Practical examples of how proof loading of bridges is approached and applied by consultants with the goal of increasing the bearing capacity of existing bridges, are still limited. The present paper presents the proof loading of 3 bridge located on a route where a heavy special transport with a total weight of >500 tonnes and an axle weight of >20 tonnes. The main outcomes of the theoretical deterministic assessment before the proof loading were decided upon, determination of the proof load together with all the considerations in the planning phase including how the proof loading can be carried out will be presented. Especially the planning phase of the proof load is essential to mitigate all significant risks and ensure a successful project for both bridge owners, users and the project team. At the end some learnings from the proof loadings will be shared and the results presented.
