ABSTRACT

A vertical wind turbine was designed with SOLIDWORKS® and constructed and tested in-house. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was carried out to validate the results of rotational speed and distribution of air flows. Theoretical efficiency in relation to the rotational speed in rounds per minute (rpm) was calculated. Charging capability of the turbine of a 12V battery was measured – achieved optimum performance at 120 rpm with a 0.2 Amps current. Mobile phones were connected to the battery to measure the battery discharging performance.
