ABSTRACT
Changes in the global climate attract the attention of the whole world. Climate change results in severe impacts on humans and the environment, such as extremely high temperatures, freezing, floods, hurricanes, and a shorter winter. The United Nations took the initiative to lead the world to a stable climate with its 2030 Agenda, SDG 13. Artificial intelligence (AI) and data science technologies are enablers of sustainable development, including addressing climate change. This article reviews and classifies the research efforts on climate change solutions using AI and data science technologies. We categorized the research efforts into four groups: classification-based, regression-based, data analysis-based, and transfer learning-based solutions. Furthermore, the article surveys the applications and datasets considered by the reviewed articles. Also, we categorized the applications into causes and impacts of climate change prediction. Finally, the article provides promising future directions for developing the research field.
