ABSTRACT

The purpose of this creative study is to understand the spatial needs and requirements of the thousands of individuals seeking housing and a more structured way of life for themselves and their families in America, primarily in the state of Florida. Reviewing studies of shelters and similar housing facilities in America that were designed as a refuge for homeless families will offer fresh direction for the design of a well-kept, functional housing model. Incorporating main ideas such as spatial limitation and functional area into this program will not only serve as a model for future designs in this architectural category but will support the ideas of government affordability and limiting environmental consumption as much as possible. This proposed model gives homeless, American families the necessary tools they need to reside comfortably until the establishment of permanent residency can become obtained
