ABSTRACT
Industry collaborations – commonly referred to as public–private partnerships – unite the diverse expertise and resources of for-profit companies, government organizations, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations to achieve shared objectives. In global health, industry collaborations that bring together low- and middle-income country (LMIC) stakeholders and international partners are vital for building scientific and healthcare professional capacity; strengthening and optimizing infrastructure; catalyzing basic and clinical research; and delivering access to quality and innovative healthcare products and services. This chapter describes methods and best practices for developing and managing LMIC-driven industry collaborations, which are applicable across technological and therapeutic areas. Global oncology and Global Medical Physics collaborations with industry are featured as model programmes that deliver substantial value and impact. Key principles and drivers of successful industry collaborations are highlighted, including focus on addressing LMIC partners’ self-defined needs and priorities; engagement and buy-in at the highest levels of each partner organization; mutual respect for organizational and cultural differences; alignment of all partners on concrete milestones, timelines, roles, and responsibilities; and robust monitoring, evaluation, and reporting frameworks.
