ABSTRACT

The second part of this paper aims to discuss the opportunities that the digital revolution can bring to urban regeneration processes, finding how innovative urban strategies could empower cities and communities through the integration of the physical, digital, and human dimension of the urban realm.

We then investigate three global experiences: the 15-minute city in Paris, the Circular Buiksloterham redevelopment plan in Amsterdam, and the Favela 4D in Rio de Janeiro. Comparing these case studies will illustrate how the use of technological solutions is closely linked to the unique values of each urban regeneration process and its expected impacts. This contribution aims to enrich the debate on smart cities, and particularly the relationship between innovative urban transformations and the use of digital technologies in the city, highlighting how a critical approach to these tools is essential for having an effective impact on the urban environment.
