ABSTRACT
Blockchain technology provides effective answers to urgent healthcare issues such as data security, interoperability, and transparency. Although there are numerous studies about the transformation of particular healthcare segments through the use of blockchain, everything is in bits and pieces. This chapter explores how blockchain is being implemented in different areas of the healthcare industry. It investigates how blockchain improves electronic health records (EHRs) by verifying data integrity, protecting security, and providing immediate access across various systems. Blockchain in clinical trials promotes trust and transparency by creating a permanent data record, which decreases fraud and enhances research results. The technology transforms drug supply chain management by allowing secure tracking and decreasing counterfeit risks with verifiable, transparent records. The use of blockchain in healthcare improves care coordination by enabling data sharing among providers, ultimately creating a secure and efficient decentralized platform. Smart contracts automate important processes such as insurance claims and medical billing, decreasing administrative expenses and mistakes. Moreover, by incorporating blockchain technology into a platform that prioritizes privacy, the security of sensitive patient information is strengthened, giving patients the ability to manage access and protect confidentiality. Blockchain systems for sharing data in healthcare facilitate smooth collaboration among stakeholders, improving research and patient results. These advancements demonstrate how blockchain can improve the healthcare system by enhancing security, efficiency, and transparency.
