ABSTRACT
The findings of the study on lateral-torsional buckling of tapered-flange beams have been presented. A full-scale experimental test of the lateral-torsional buck-ling of a linearly variable flange-tapered steel H-beam subjected to a point load was done. The load systems and geometrical characteristics of the flange-tapered beams were characterized. Recorded strains and displacements during the stability loss at the beam mid-span were presented. The experimentally obtained critical load was compared with the Ritz method and Finite Element Method analysis calculated critical loads, finding reasonable agreement.
