ABSTRACT

This publication presents a real-life case study involving the execution of a composite steel–concrete elevated slab system. It summarizes the key structural assumptions, engineering solutions, and design methodologies applied throughout the basic, executive, and workshop design phases of a Battery Gigafactory project in Sweden, comprising 85,000 m² of composite slab construction. The fundamental principles underpinning the system's design are described in detail. The proposed and implemented solution offered the client a range of advantages that surpass those provided by conventional approaches—particularly in terms of durability, load-bearing capacity, and maintenance requirements—while also delivering a more sustainable and efficient outcome in both time and cost.
