ABSTRACT

The use of cleaner energy sources needs to be done to avoid the effects of global warming. This is because the energy that is widely used still produces greenhouse gas emissions which affect global warming. The Southeast Asia Region is an area that is vulnerable to the effects of global warming because it is located close to the ocean. Therefore, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is very important. It is targeted that ASEAN will reach NZE by 2050. This study aims to analyze the efforts made by ASEAN member countries toward a cleaner energy system to achieve NZE. The author uses a descriptive-qualitative research method by collecting data through library research. The research results show that the Southeast Asia Region has great potential for the development of renewable energy. This is an opportunity for an energy transition in the region. In addition, ASEAN already has various instruments to encourage the energy transition toward NZE. In general, ASEAN countries have made efforts to adopt clean energy, especially Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
