ABSTRACT
A discussion of tunneling and sustainability risks to get lost in the complexity and abundance of its details. Therefore, any kind of metanarrative might help in creating a framework for discussion and change. Such a metanarrative is the new European Bauhaus movement with its slogan “beauty, sustainable, inclusive”. The aim of the new European Bauhaus is to create a design driven approach to questions of sustainability. To rewire the engineer of the 20th century into a new mindset made for the 21th century. This paper explores the New European Bauhaus movement as a practice for tunnel design by presenting both minor and major attempts in a Nordic context to exemplify what tunneling in the new European Bauhaus could mean.
