ABSTRACT

The use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) concepts to enhance tunnelling projects has become increasingly prevalent worldwide. To support this, the International Tunnelling Association (ITA) Working Group (WG) 22 “Information Modelling in Tunnelling” published the first international guideline for BIM for Bored Tunnelling Projects in 2022. To expand and improve this guideline, the ITA WG 22 will publish a revised guideline at the 2025 World Tunnel Congress. The revised guideline includes recommendations on several new topics. These encompass the implementation of BIM for conventional tunnelling, the recommended contents of a BIM Execution Plan (BEP), and the translation of the guideline into a mining environment. The section on ground modelling and the list of Use Cases have been expanded. The primary focus of the guideline remains on heavy civil aspects. This contribution presents an overview of the revised contents of the guideline, emphasising changes and additions to the previous version.
