ABSTRACT

In recent tunnel engineering, computer-controlled drill jumbos have been introduced for blast excavation. This paper presents an optimization method for blasting patterns using the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) for advanced use of the computer-controlled jumbo. The methodology encompasses interpreting drilling data, designing blasting pattern layouts, and applying MCS to determine the optimal explosive charge mass. The results demonstrated that the location, number of holes, and explosive charge mass could be optimized according to the contour derived from drilling data, contributing to improvement of productivity in blast operations.
