ABSTRACT
At the new metro station of Södra Hagalund, there are two 65-meter-long escalator shafts at an inclination of 30 degrees from the horizontal. The traditional method to excavate an escalator shaft is from the bottom to the top using a conventional drill and blast method, with the construction of a false ramp. In collaboration, the client (with its designer) and the contractor (with its specialist sub-contractor) proposed a new method: inclined raise boring and front drilling.
