ABSTRACT
The construction of the CPK (Central Communication Port) tunnel for the High-Speed Railway in a compact urban area and its connection to the existing railway station “Łódź Fabryczna” required that the dismantling shaft for the TBM shield had to be constructed partly under the historic building of the Łódź Cultural Center. The circumstances had a major impact on the complex geometry of the dismantling shaft. Implementation of works caused changes in how the building’s loads were safe transferred to the ground. The article presents design and implementation challenges, as well as selected contract issues and risk analysis.
