ABSTRACT
In the field of underground construction, the innovative application of new materials and technologies plays a crucial role. The emerging “High-Loadbearing Settlement-Prevention Jello-Mud” technique has become a more efficient and economical solution for large shield tunnel construction in urban infrastructure. This technique primarily relies on the reaction between sodium-based bentonite and high molecular polymers to form a cohesive, highly thixotropic slurry. It can effectively fill gaps created during construction, providing support, reducing disturbance to surrounding soil, and preventing settlement. Additionally, Jello-Mud exhibits lubrication, friction reduction, and water isolation properties. This paper details the various functions of High-Loadbearing Settlement-Prevention Jello Mud based on recent shield tunnel cases in China.
