ABSTRACT

Especially for key infrastructures, the aspect of reliability is crucial for the overall infrastructure system due to the lack of redundancies. Increasing the availability of the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT) is a fundamental principle for its design and construction. Besides several design and construction measures for increasing the availability, Distributed Fibre Optic Sensors (DFOS) are combined to a network as part of a structural health monitoring system for the constructional and operational phase. The realized DFOS network allows a detailed monitoring of the segmental lining of the machine-driven tunnel structure of the asset and to choose the optimal measures during construction. Under operation the system supports an optimized maintenance.
