ABSTRACT

Korsvägen is a transport hub situated in Gothenburg, Sweden, where an underground station is currently being constructed. Optical strain sensors, temperature and moisture gauges, as well as pressure cells, have been installed to monitor how loads are transferring from the surrounding rock mass through the supporting concrete structure during the excavation. To achieve this objective, the system had to comply with a list of requirements, which is detailed in the current paper. The instrumenting sensors that have accordingly been installed, and the processing algorithms that have subsequently been prepared, are then described. Overall, the proposed approach allows to follow the evolution of indicators such as utilization ratios. These quantities provide meaningful insights to ensure that the operations are safe to proceed.
