ABSTRACT
Unknown to many, the supply of fresh water in Hong Kong is dependent on water conveyance through almost 200 km of water tunnels, managed and maintained by the Water Supplies Department (WSD). Periodic condition assessments are required to inform maintenance interventions and maintain operability of the tunnels. To enable the integration and utilization of digital asset management methods, digital data collection and management approaches have been trialed during recent condition assessments. These include central dashboards for data management and trials of tools including mobile apps, automated inspections using Artificial Intelligence, 360° video, LiDAR and UAV photogrammetry which enable data collection, management and reporting for the tunnel inspection works. This paper presents a summary of the inspection trials completed, together with recommendations and suggestions on the preferred solution for full lifecycle digital asset inspection and management as well as future developments that require further exploration.
