ABSTRACT

To solve the problem of poor real-time performance of tunnel inspection, this paper develops an architecture of tunnel real-time multimodal monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks on the edge. The inspection vehicle with computing equipment is used as a mobile image acquisition and procession tool achieving the function of defect identification and feature extraction on the edge side. The defect feature information is transmitted in real time through an external wireless transmission module which is integrated into tunnel health monitoring system. The system has been tested in the actual environment of the subway tunnel and realized the function of defect feature image transmission. The factors affecting the communication performance of the transmission system are also pointed out in this paper, which provides reference for further development. This work demonstrates that the proposed system and the existing configuration can satisfy and real-time transmission of tunnel defect image information within a range of more than 500 meters.
