ABSTRACT
Japan Express Highway tunnels that have been constructed for over 40 years were built using the sheet piling method. Lining concrete made using sheet piling method has deteriorated over time and it has led to water leakage issues. To solve this problem, we have devised to be renewable new method of tunnel lining while keeping the Express Highway in Service. To apply this new method in actual construction work, we assumed that the renewal works of tunnel lining would be carried out although the traffic was in Service, we have developed the technologies of Scraping of existing lining, Design and Manufacturing of protectors, and new high workable and fiber mixing lining concrete. We constructed a full-scale mock tunnel and conducted full-scale experiments inside it to confirm the conditions for Express Highway in Service.
