ABSTRACT

This paper examines the social engagement strategies of the NBSINFRA project, which aims to integrate NBS into urban infrastructure planning and development. Using different methods for stakeholders mapping a comprehensive analysis of each stakeholder, combined with immersive fieldwork, the project reunites lay and scientific knowledge, fostering synergies to enhance social literacy on NBS and engage diverse groups in the project’s development and continuity. The paper highlights how the NBSINFRA project can showcase best practices in community involvement and addresses socio-technical challenges in implementing NBS. Early discussions on this topic provide insights into the systemic nature of NBS implementation processes. The paper concludes with some final considerations for scientists, policymakers, urban planners, and practitioners, emphasizing the importance of identifying and understanding stakeholders in NBS projects. These insights pave the way for the long-term viability and impact of such initiatives, strengthening social engagement and contributing to sustainable environmental interventions.
