ABSTRACT
Traditional marine monitoring has problems such as few monitoring points, expensive equipment investment, high maintenance cost and vulnerability. Considering marine buoys are characterized by wide coverage, dense deployment and small maintenance cost, the author proposes “marine buoys crowdsourcing wave monitoring” application concept, which is categorized into two modes. One is “big data wave monitoring mode” and the other is “instantaneous wave monitoring mode”. Completely based on the database of the existing buoy remote control and monitoring system, the “big data wave monitoring” optimizes the transmission mode and data, and checks the change of waves around the buoys, so as to generate a big wave database for the whole region. The “instantaneous wave monitoring mode” monitors the wave transient changes by setting the threshold value through the accelerometer data changes built into the lightship. This concept is using existing navigational resources for wave monitoring, through the remote control and monitoring system and lights built-in accelerometer to collect data to realize the “big data wave monitoring” and “instantaneous wave monitoring”. Therefore, the “underwater” monitoring is changed to “on-water” monitoring, which reduces the monitoring cost and strengthens the temporal and spatial resolution of the data. By constructing the database of “marine buoys crowdsourcing wave monitoring”, an accurate wave model is built, which can be used to provide information for the construction of ports, navigation safety, route planning, and environmental protection.
