ABSTRACT
This study explores the concepts of language, culture, identity, and diversity, completed with their application in daily life. Using a systematic literature review, this study explored these four concepts from some scholars, such as Stuart Hall, Claire Kramsch, and Kathryn Woodward. The results and discussions mentioned two stories; one of them is from the researchers’ personal experiences, which are correlated with the concept of language, culture, identity, and diversity. Through critical reflections done by the research on culture, this study confirmed Hall's theory in some cases and countered Hall's theory in other cases. Hence, this study highlights the existence of the same conceptual map, which belongs to people in the same culture, is “more likely” to happen, but not necessarily “always” happens in every situation. This study further confirmed Kramsch's statement about diversity that humans’ interpretation is mostly influenced by experience and knowledge, which they acquire from their communities.
