ABSTRACT
This study explores the role of university museums in Indonesia as catalysts for academic and off-campus community engagement, with a focus on supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Employing qualitative research methods, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with university museum managers, academics, and visitors, alongside the analysis of relevant case studies. The findings reveal that various programs initiated by university museums—such as community curator programs, community engagement initiatives, community exhibitions, and seminar series—effectively foster cultured, inclusive, critically thinking communities that value equality and social justice. These outcomes significantly contribute to advancing SDGs 4, 5, and 16. The study highlights the untapped potential of university museums in driving community development and addressing global challenges while offering practical recommendations to enhance their role within a sustainable development framework.
