ABSTRACT

Environmental issues in South Tangerang City are largely attributed to limited environmental awareness and attitudes. Addressing this challenge requires the implementation of effective environmental education initiatives. This study evaluates the impact of integrating environmental education (EE) into lesson study projects on students' environmental attitudes, supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 13 (Climate Action). The study involved 193 junior high school students aged 12 to 15, divided into two groups: 116 students were taught by science teachers who had previously participated in lesson study projects. The findings indicate that students from schools engaged in EE lesson studies demonstrated improved environmental attitudes in Factor II (attitudes toward recovery), Factor III (attitudes toward recycling), and Factor IV (environmental consciousness and behaviour). However, they showed weaker performance in Factor I (attitudes toward prevention). Additionally, student participation in environmental projects was significantly higher in schools implementing EE lesson study programs. These results highlight the effectiveness of lesson study-based environmental education in fostering positive environmental attitudes and encouraging active student involvement in sustainability initiatives.
