Ground water effects on coseismic slope instability during the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, Japan

Geotechnical damage reconnaissance was made by the authors after the 2023 No- to Peninsula earthquake of Mw=7.4. The studied slope failures suggest that the instability was aggravated by additional water supply from the surrounding environment. Because such water supply has not been considered by the engineering practice, this finding is one of the important lessons learnt from this earthquake.
