ABSTRACT
In engineering practices, it is suggested that there is an increased need for commu-nication between structural and geotechnical engineers to ensure that foundation system designs perform as intended. Special attention is given to the interaction between the structure and the piled raft in the design and analysis of foundation systems. It deals with a class of problems in which the behavior of both principal parts of the system (the geo-material and the structural foun-dation) must be considered. Aspects of soil-structure interaction have been introduced and relat-ing several soil-structure interaction problems will be analyzed in depth. An interactive analytical method for the interaction between the superstructure and the foundation is highlighted.
