ABSTRACT

This paper explores the use of Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) block with steel inclusion to support a 10-meter excavation for a SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) block in Malaysia. The typical soil profile is 6m thick sandy silt to silt with SPT N=3 to 10, followed by 4m thick silt with SPT N=10 to 30, then increasing to SPT N=50 at 15m depth. For two sides of the excavation, gravitational DSM blocks are utilized. For other two sides, due to the narrow space available for treatment, steel inclusion is utilized in DSM columns to enhance stability. Results indicate that monitored wall deflection remains within allowable limits, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
