ABSTRACT
In cold regions, a GCL prevents LNAPL leakage from fuel tanks; however, its barrier performance of a GCL is affected by freeze-thaw cycles because of having bentonite with high moisture content. In this research, a test device with 1D cyclic freeze-thaw for CT scanner device was newly developed and used to scan each stage of the bentonite by nano and the GCL by micro- focused X-ray CT, respectively. The results indicate that as the number of freeze-thaw cycles increases, cracks persist along the needle punching fiber within the GCL.
