ABSTRACT

Face stability is an important aspect of soft ground urban tunnel construction. Current study reviews and apprises the face stability models for conventional tunnel construction in soft ground conditions using the project data from Kolkata East West Metro Project UG-1. Ground conditions, pre and post undertaken ground improvement, have been considered for reviewing the face stability models. Statistical comparison of the face stability has been further undertaken and compared with the observed volume loss. Based on the undertaken analysis, study confirms and apprises the application of face stability models.
