ABSTRACT

This paper presents a comprehensive QA/QC methodology developed for large-scale rock fill embankments at the Navi Mumbai International Airport project, where a 120-metre-high hill was flattened and used as curtain fill, addressing challenges posed by an abundance of rock and scarcity of soil. A combined approach employing Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) and Zone Load Tests (ZLT) was adopted to benchmark and monitor compaction quality. The combined method enabled evidence-based roller-pass limits and lot-level acceptance with statistical gates on both level Shear Wave Velocity (Vs) and uniformity.
