ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess the validity of the Indonesian Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment Needs (IIOTN) index in assessing malocclusion in the mixed dentition stage. Method: A qualitative study was conducted to assess the validity of a questionnaire with four components: primary teeth, permanent anterior teeth, permanent posterior teeth, and occlusion. Four experts provided opinions on each component to prevent or reduce malocclusion in permanent teeth, with a particular focus on its correlation with the development of occlusion in children. Results: The expert reviews confirmed the face validity of the index in determining the need for interceptive orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: The IIOTN index can be used to screen for malocclusion that requires interceptive treatment. It could be broadly implemented to detect potential the negative impacts of malocclusion on children's quality of life and self-confidence.
