ABSTRACT

Objectives: to assess the Forward Head Posture (FHP) and Temporomandibular Disorders (TMDs) and compare the risk of the development of FHP and TMDs in the two groups of high-risk individuals. Methods: Two groups of students from the Faculty of Dentistry and Computer Science were chosen using systematic randomized sampling (n=60). The modified goniometer was used to measure Craniovertebral angle (CVA) of FHP. Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD) protocol used to diagnose TMDs. The data were analyzed using independent t-test and Chi-square test. Results: All the high-risk students having FHP as the CVA measured was between 22°-41° (±4.85). 61.7% (n=37) had TMDs. Mostly, classified as intra-articular joint disease 51.7% (n=31), only one sample had degenerative disorders. In comparison, Both groups have no significant difference between FHP (p>0.05) and TMDs (p>0.05). Conclusion: Both groups have similar risks to be affected by FHP and TMDs. Therefore, the ergonomics posture should be encouraged.
