ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how digital building logbooks (DBL) and digital building permits (DBP) intersect. It argues that both should be treated together in terms of processes, stakeholders, data, and legal framework. The authors conducted a comprehensive data collection from relevant scientific studies and strategic European Union reports to identify commonalities between DBL and DBP. This involved analysing existing research and synthesising findings to highlight shared datapoints. The findings reveal significant integration opportunities between DBL and DBP, particularly at the data level. The chapter illustrates the necessity of strengthening this integration to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in building management practices. This work contributes to the existing literature by emphasising the interconnectedness of DBL and DBP, advocating for a unified approach that can inform future research actions. It serves as a foundational reference for stakeholders seeking to demonstrate the added value/benefits of this integration and how optimisation in the use of digital tools in the building sector can occur.
