ABSTRACT
The Winter Typologies: Through artistic and scientific methods, the Winter Gardens: Eco-system Services for the Future Series expand on research in the field of extreme architecture concerning its potential in addressing challenges like the climate emergency and changing ecosystems today. With a particular focus on the concepts of winter gardens in the context of the northern Swedish climate, the research is grounded in a society longing for green spaces and confirmation of life in winter. We particularly examine climate resiliency in the intersection of traditional knowledge and emergent technologies by developing a methodology that evaluates climate-controlled prototypes through environmental monitoring, public engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The aim has been to create relevant experiences fostering connection between human and non-human species, technological systems, and the environment. Through the implementation and testing of digital and physical prototypes, this research evaluates their performance as urban climate infrastructures.
