ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the advanced fluid dynamics education and research activities at the Belgium-based Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (VKI), a world-renowned education and research centre created by Professor Theodor von Kármán in 1956 and today supported by several major North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Allies. Fluid dynamics being a fundamental science that governs almost every aspect of daily life, VKI has historically focused on a number of applications that have become even more relevant in today's complex geopolitical environment. The chapter describes the strategic technology domains of interest to the Von Karman Institute and provides an insight in how VKI approaches and structures the associated research activities. The VKI welcomes an exchange of ideas and suggestions with current and interested NATO Allies on new subjects and approaches, aimed at further strengthening the science and technology base of the NATO Alliance and its partners.
