ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as contaminants in agricultural soils. It begins by highlighting key PFAS characteristics followed by PFAS environmental entry modes and fate in agricultural fields. The chapter includes sections on human and ecological exposure routes and health risks from agriculture. This is then followed by plausible mitigation strategies and strategies to keep PFAS-impacted farms viable while minimizing PFAS impacts to our food system, including techniques in PFAS identification, tracking, remediation, and mitigation.
