ABSTRACT

Artificial Intelligence has a wide range of applications that could help the legal system deal with persistent issues including lengthy court cases and excessive operating expenses. The emergence of AI in such an unimaginably huge dimension is a challenge to the legal world. A big drop in the number of cases pending in the court will benefit judges, lawyers, clients and general public. Artificial Intelligence will help legal professionals spend more time enhancing legal reasoning, discussion, and law interpretation. The use of Artificial Intelligence language technology has been implemented by the Supreme Court of India for translating legal documents, conducting legal research, and automating processes. Supreme Court VidhikAnuvaad Software has been developed for translation of judgments into regional languages. This research shows how AI can be helpful to make the legal system more efficient and effective. It facilitates easier access to or usage of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) also. But, AI in the judiciary cannot fully replace human judges because of disparities in the application scenario and conceptual framework etc. Thus, it is the potential instrument in the legal system to promote qualitative and time demanding adjudication, rather than replacing the judges.
