ABSTRACT
Nayantara Sahgal is one of the recognized English writers of contemporary India. Her novels have dealt with social, political and feminist issues. In this novel This Time of Morning expresses India at the time of early years of independence. Sahgal darley attacks corrupt politicians, businessmen and male chauvinists through her novels. She picturizes the real-life situation of Indian people particularly Indian women and their struggles in the male dominated society. This present paper analyses the characters merits and demerits as per their own originality. It also describes the agony and suffering of women who need liberalism in all the fields, like social, political and cultural liberalism. The real characteristic of male characters is explored apart from all restrictions; the female characters unveil themselves to the society. The traditional rules and regulations that are the barriers to the new generation of modern women are portrayed by the mother characters. Gender discrimination should be eradicated from society and women have to be treated as equal to men in families and their rights should be ensured. It explores the false characters in all fields, like family, politics and business.
