ABSTRACT

This study focuses on Manipuri folktales to explore the concept of emotional cartography. Emotional cartography is defined as the practice of mapping subjective feelings onto geographical or conceptual spaces. The selected folktales are “The Bird Langmeiton” (Hornbill) and “The Demon Queen.” The research focuses on the movement of the characters from one environment to another. These space changes reflect the characters’ inner struggles and personal growth. The places can be either full of dangers or hope. Their journey from silent suffering to freedom shows real emotions like pain, strength, and the desire to be free. The study also shows how folktales reflect human experiences, social challenges, and the deep desire for self-growth and independence.
