ABSTRACT
This paper explores the intersection of aging, lifelong learning, and upskilling through a sociological lens, aiming to challenge prevailing ageist narratives and promote a more inclusive understanding of aging. As global populations age, traditional views that associate older age with decline and disengagement are increasingly outdated. Drawing on sociological theories of aging, this study examines how older adults play a crucial role in the inclusive vision. It appears that they are often not allowed to participate in socio-economic activity. Therefore, this paper presents multifaceted challenges of older adults such as ageism, digital exclusion, economic insecurity which creates a hindrance to their abilities to contribute to society in a positive way.
This paper suggests that there is also a need for intergenerational communities’ cooperation and support to promote active ageing. By addressing the above challenges, society can move toward, more equitable and more inclusive society where all ages will be empowered and engaged.
