ABSTRACT
There has been an instant rise in standup comedy in India, and online platforms are used widely. But from time to time, these stand-up comedians are in the news for content that is not considered proper as per the morals of society. The recent episode has been of Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. The present paper discusses how such incidents do not fall within the domain of obscenity and morality defined by the Indian Courts, but do they in any way affect women? Are these standup comedians normalizing the language that, per se, is derogatory against women? Whether we need any law to regulate it or its self-realization by these comedians is a need of the hour.
