ABSTRACT
This study investigates how social media can help spread knowledge and encourage behavior change about Chhaupadi, a damaging and deeply ingrained menstrual custom that is common in Far Western Nepal. Women are isolated during their periods because of this practice, which negatively affects both their social standing and general health. Data collected from focus groups with women exposed to this malpractice is used in this study to support its assertion. The results show that social media effectively challenge conventional wisdom that supports the practice by making important facts accessible. This encourages women to actively campaign for change and makes it easier for them to share their personal stories.
