ABSTRACT
The construction industry’s pivotal role in generating construction and demolition (C&D) waste underscores the urgent need for sustainable practices. This chapter focuses on India, particularly urban areas like Bengaluru, to explore the potential of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) as a solution. The construction industry’s profound impact on carbon emissions necessitates the adoption of sustainable practices for achieving net-zero carbon emissions. This chapter explores the role of RCA and its efficient management in advancing sustainability within the construction sector. By synthesizing insights from recent literature and a case study conducted in Bengaluru, India, the chapter sheds light on strategies for reducing the carbon footprint and embracing a more eco-friendly construction paradigm. The objectives of the study include assessing the environmental impact of using recycled aggregates and proposing strategies for integrating recycled materials into construction projects.
