ABSTRACT

Various technologies shape the behavior of artifacts, the environment, and systems. Emerging technologies are introducing novel ways to engage, entertain, inform, and support users, establishing new modes of communication and interaction. Technology has become deeply ingrained in our everyday experiences, enhancing how our environment helps and entertainment, consequently influencing how people interact. This chapter delves into the intricate relationship between advanced technologies and new interaction channels connecting users with systems or environments. It explores the future design scenarios facilitated by advanced technologies, specifically within the realms of care and museums. The authors present research findings spanning from January 2021 to December 2023, part of the “Design for Digital Care” and “Digital for Museums” projects by D\Tank, the Think Tank of the Design Department at Politecnico di Milano. The study aimed to conceptualize design scenarios in the near future, leveraging digital technologies such as wearables, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality, mobile technologies, and many more. This contribution provides a concise summary of the research process leading to the envisioning of innovation convergences within the two domains, and ultimately discusses how users will engage with digital technologies in the near future, considering senses, channels, and touch points.
