ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to deepen the understanding of Futures Thinking and Futures Literacy (FL) within the field of human-computer interaction (HCI). We illustrate the practical application of futures thinking in shaping governmental policies and corporate strategies. By exploring methodologies such as causal layered analysis (CLA) and UNESCO's FL framework, we highlight their significance and applicability in the HCI domain. Our goal is to bridge theoretical insights with real-world practices, enabling readers to integrate these concepts into authentic HCI scenarios. Additionally, we seek to stimulate innovative and forward-thinking approaches in HCI through speculative and exploratory methodologies. Crucially, we emphasize the ethical imperatives, advocating for moral sensitivity and future consciousness in the development of cutting-edge, sustainable technologies.
